The AT&T Curve doesn't support UMA, which is a feature that allows you to roam seamlessly onto a local WiFi network to make calls, when coverage is poor. The T-Mobile version of the phone supports UMA.

The 8900 for T-Mobile supports UMA, which allows you to seamlessly make a call over an available WiFi network when coverage is poor. The Curve 8900 for AT&T doesn't support UMA. However, it does have WiFi connectivity.

Absolutely. That is the advantage of having a device with wifi built in. You can use it on home, office, and other wireless networks.

Does the BB Curve 8900 require the user to compulsorily subscribe to a data plan from AT&T? Is it possible to get this with a voice-only Family plan with no data included?

You must sign up for a data plan if you want to purchase the Blackberry Curve 8900. That is the case with all vendors now, not only LetsTalk.com.

I travel frequently between US and Mex and would like to disable my internet service while in Mex to avoid the roaming charges. Is there anyway that I can do that and still be able to use my phone within Mex?

Your phone only uses data if you select a feature that is data related, so you don't need to worry about charges. Just be careful not to activate a button that activates a data feature in your pocket!

When purchasing this phone through letstalk.com, you must add the $30/month data plan and keep it on for at least 6 months or you will be liable for an ETF from letstalk.

It is highly unlikely. There are hardware requirements to use 3G. Think of the original iPhone. It can never access the 3G network. But Bold and its soon to be out successor have both WiFi and 3G.
